Gratitudes: For my midwife. For my mom cooking me breakfast and taking D to the arboretum. For Dottie saying sentences- I want it. Way up high, Daddy (as in throw the ball way up high). Go away, blue! (When trying to get the blue recycling bin to move).

For car seats keeping my babies safe, despite how hard they are to move. Car naps.

For hugs.

Gratitudes: for my mom taking care of Dottie while I took Kit to her doctor appts, and driving her to Lexington to Charles' dad's house. For a clean bill from Kit's surgeon. For 1lb 2oz of weight gain in 2 weeks. For a fantastic dinner at Bumpah's. for my mom spending the coming night with us in Lexington to help take care of the babes. — with Tona Johnston Barkley and Charles Hamilton Coulston.

Gratitudes: For making funny faces with Dottie Bea, and her reading to herse. For Charles coming home from work and playing with Dottie and feeding her dinner, drawing Thomas the Train for her, making her super happy; all so I can take a bath with Kit. For clean baby smells.

(My comment follows)
This is amazingly helpful, it was hard at first to think of something good as I had dropped an entire bowl of steaming soup straight down onto the kitchen floor whose contents shot straight up onto me and all over the kitchen, which I had to clean up while 2 hungry babes screamed at me. But thinking about the good really diminishes the bad...besides, it was only 15 minutes.

Yesterday's gratefuls. So grateful to have the resources and time to cook for my family (at least some of the time). For watching Dottie devour her ham bean and spinach soup in a way I've never seen her eat. She chugged the broth. Chugged. For 3 out of 4 successful trips to the potty....for Dottie, not me. I was 100% successful. I am grateful for that too. Gooo continence! And, as I am every day, grateful for my miracle baby.

Why I'm doing this.

I began posting things I am grateful for, large and small, on Facebook as a way to remind myself that even on hard days (and there are a lot of hard ones) that there are good and beautiful things each day. I am going to repost them here in this blog so that I can personally access them more easily. If you come across them, I hope they can help you find good things in your life.

So,I keep thinking I'm going to take a cue from Amelia Berry and start my own gratitude project. But I haven't because I should wait until the beginning of the month, or until I have some big great thing like moving out of the crappiest of towns (that's elizabethtown btw), or accomplishing some big great thing like pulling off a great birthday party for Dottie, or becoming some mythically great mother who never yells at her children and is super duper extra happy.

So, I've apparently procrastinated in doing this thing that's supposed to help me be happier, because I'm not happy enough. Dumb.

So lets do this thing. I am grateful for the miracle baby I am sitting here breastfeeding who is a champ at it despite not getting to breastfeed for the first week of her life. For Dottie sleeping soundly in the other room. For Charles, at work so I can be here with our babies. For celebrating my Dad's birthday yesterday with him and three great babies. (Pat Edwards Barkley, Clay Barkley).
For a bid on a short sale house in Bardstown that may come through soon. For my mom, Tona Johnston Barkley

Those are just the biggies. Imma try and get more specific to each day and try to actually post each day. Hold me to it folks.
